Are you an artist? An art lover? Are you looking for that painting for over the fireplace, the perfect piece of jewelry for your loved one, or perhaps that dramatic sculpture for that empty space in the corner? Or maybe you just like meeting creative people and looking at interesting and beautiful things.

The 2012 Clarksville Fine Arts Festival will be Saturday, June 2, 2012, from 9:AM to 4:PM in Clarksville, Texas. This will be our fifth year and we are becoming established as a premier event in the North-East Texas region. Go here to learn all about it!

A call for artists!

This year’s Clarksville Fine Arts Festival will be Saturday, June 2, 2012 on the beautiful Clarksville Texas Downtown Square from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is the 5th year for this fine arts festival, which is once again free for participating artists.

The event is open to all painters, potters, sculptors, print makers, authors and other artists to display and sell their own original work. We invite all artists producing fine art to participate. To ensure we have only fine art, we will jury the art of all applicants. $200 will again be presented to one artist judged to be “Best in Show”. Artists this year must designate one of their pieces to be judged.

Artists! Register now! This is a popular event and spaces go quickly!

BankTexas has teamed with the ART Region of Texas to spotlight local artists at their Winnsboro Store. The creative works of sculptors Bonnie Sir Kegian, Georgia Lange Moore and Alder L Moore are now displayed at BankTexas for the upcoming months.

Al and Georgia Moore work from their Bent Pine Studios in Winnsboro, producing pieces of sculpture that never fail to connect with the viewer.

Working primarily in stone, organic forms seem to emerge from the sea, or other water related sources, as Al Moore’s creative hands moved about the limestone for production of his “Dordogne Head”. This carved Austin Limestone piece depicts the fossilized skull of a Dragon rising from the waters of the Dordogne River in France. A single tooth of marble is inset into the limestone body. A surprising abstract and lyrical quality emerges from this artist and adds to the viewing pleasure, especially when knowing the artist’s engineering and software background. This “balance” was maintained earlier in his career by working in the “lost wax” process creating custom jewelry. Al’s focus, now, remains on sculpture.

Dordogne Head -- a sculpture by Al Moore

Georgia Lange Moore is well known for the strength and emotional depth depicted in her clay works. Her “Circle of Friends” depicts three children of varied races holding hands and “connecting their worlds” with one another. The children, in this stained stoneware piece, project a realism that immediately captures the viewer, bringing forth similar experiences of “connecting with life”. Georgia taught art in Dallas, and, also, taught Sculpture and Clay Processes at Northeast Texas Community College. Georgia’s stained stoneware pieces include many “Heads”, which are intimate “sketches” in clay. She, also, has created a specialty form known as her “Spirit Vessels”.

Circle of Friends -- a sculpture by Georgia Lange Moore

Bonnie Sir Kegian’s “White Lotus” draws the viewer into a glowing realm of beauty. Her process of direct carving on this alabaster piece seeks to follow the path of simplicity to reveal the “true beauty”. The silhouette she works to produce seeks to find that perfect portrayal of what should be removed and what should remain as she, the artist, puts her “signature” into the alabaster. Bonnie’s influences come from nature, mythology, Greek classicism, poetry, and ancient traditions. She, also, works in black & white photography, hand coloring some of her pieces. Earlier in life, Bonnie worked as an educator and a photojournalist. Working from her studio at Hunter’s Moon Farm, her “stories” now emerge in marble, limestone and alabaster.

White Lotus -- a sculpture by Bonnie Sir Kegian

All three sculptors belong to the Texas Sculpture Association, Art Professionals of Texas and the ART Region of Texas. The ART Region of Texas is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the art and artists of northeast Texas. To explore the many facets of the organization, go to www.artregionoftexas.com.

Sandy Page, President of the ART Region worked with BankTexas to arrange this sculpture exhibition.

BankTexas has set out to be more than a just a bank, but a partner in the community. Since opening its doors there in 2011, BankTexas has embraced the Arts Community in Winnsboro by sponsoring the stage at Crossroads Music Co. and by displaying artwork from the ART Region of Texas. With its store designed to be like a community living room where people can sip a fresh cup of coffee and enjoy free WiFi, BankTexas is pleased to offer their lobby as a space where visitors can now view the work of talented local artists. The sculptures currently displayed are a great addition to the Bank lobby, arranged in a sitting area that is perfect for viewing the pieces.

Come in, view the art, enjoy a cup of coffee

“BankTexas in Winnsboro is excited to have the opportunity to work with the ART Region of Texas. Our customers have already commented how beautiful the art is and that it enhances the décor of the Bank,” says Carolyn Burns, Winnsboro Store Manager. “We would like everyone in the community to come by and see what pieces are on display and the talent of our local artists.” The public is welcome to view the sculptures during the Bank’s lobby hours which are 9:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

The public is welcome to come and view the art

Deborah Paris has three upcoming online classes that offer a unique learning opportunity for the artist or art student.

Drawing & Painting Trees – August 19-September 16, 2011. For landscape artists, trees are arguably the most important raw material of our craft and art. Artists in the 19th century routinely sketched and painted studies of these sentinels of nature in order to understand their structure as well as their artistic bearing. These drawings and studies were then used to create larger studio works.

John Carlson, author of Carlson’s Guide to Landscape Painting (the bible of landscape painting) rightly tells us that the way to learn to paint trees is by “much drawing of trees”. Through drawing and observation, we will learn to paint not only their anatomy, but their line, character, and the emotions they can inspire.

Field Sketching for Landscape Painters -September 30-October 28, 2011 . Working from Nature and direct observation is the time honored way to learn how to paint landscapes. Unfortunately, many aspiring landscape painters miss the essential first step: learning to draw and sketch in the field. If you are unable to draw the landscape you will have a much more difficult time learning to paint it convincingly. Most classes and workshops jump into plein air painting without giving students any tools to make a success of their efforts. This course is designed to give you the tools to draw and sketch in the field with confidence, both improving your plein air paintings and leading to better, finished work in the studio.

Painting the Luminous Landscape -October 21-November 18, 2011. This course is designed for intermediate to advanced oil painters, and will introduce students to the Tonalist landscape aesthetic and techniques. Tonalism, a distinct style of landscape painting which developed in the late 19th century, is experiencing a resurgence of interest today. It is characterized by simple design, a narrow range of values, a limited but luminous palette and an emphasis on atmospheric effects in the landscape, particularly during the hours of dawn, sunset, dusk and evening. Techniques for creating underpaintings, glazing and scumbling will be covered.

Class sizes are limited and they go fast. Register or find more information at this link

Valerie Jungck Sanders is an accomplished watercolor artist who moved to Northeast Texas in 2005 from San Diego, California. She retired as a Battalion Chief with the San Diego Fire Department after twenty-four years of service. She has been painting for over thirty years and has won several awards in the southern California area as well as “Best of Show” in the Mineola League of the Arts Show in Mineola, Texas. Valerie is recognized for her bold use of color and design, and her diversity of subject matter and style versatility. Her paintings include florals, landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, and bold abstracts. She is very adept at negative painting, a technique found difficult for most painters, using many layers of paint to create depth and strong values with vibrant color.
