Mount Vernon

Welcome to Mount Vernon. We’re a small town with a lot of charm.

Mount Vernon is the county seat of Franklin County and is conveniently located midway between Dallas and Texarkana on I-30.

Our proximity to a tri-lake area offers many day trip or weekend opportunities for travelers to take a step back in time in our historic downtown and spend time relaxing on beautiful Lake Cypress Springs or nearby Lake Bob Sandlin and Lake Monticello.

Celebrating our Centennial Year, Mount Vernon offers a turn-of-the-century ambiance. Given the prestigious “Texas Treasure” designation by Texas First Lady, Anita Perry in 2009, Mount Vernon is truly a treasure trove of a community. Beautiful lakes and nature preserves, well-preserved historical homes and buildings, great schools and an active and lively Arts and Historical organization lend many unique experiences for visitors in our town.

While visiting our nostalgic downtown you will find places to shop, eat and relax. Catch our Farmer’s Market on Saturdays for homemade goodies and locally grown produce. Unique gift, antique and clothing stores are within a leisurely stroll. Our historical town plaza, in the heart of downtown, offers a shady place to take photos, stop and smell the roses and take in the many sights of a one-hundred-year-old town. Museums and art galleries are within walking distance of the town square. Whether it’s our annual April Arts Festival in the Spring, Summer Concerts on the Square, Go Rodeo Parade and Festival on Labor Day weekend, CountryFest in the Fall, or our festival of lights during the Windows on the Holiday, Mount Vernon offers fun family activities year round.
